From Fire. Through Rain.
First there was a fire in the woods. It climbed through the dry branches and left the ground black with ash. The air held smoke long after the flames were gone.
Then came the rain. It fell slowly, darkening the bark, cooling the embers, and drawing the scent of earth back out of the forest. By morning, one thing had survived: a rose, deep red against the ruin.

The Fragrance
